Advertise Your Website with Google Adwords
Google Adwords is a great way to kick-start a new website. Google search results are divided into two sets of results. To the left of the screen you will find the "organic" or "natural" search results and to the right of the screen, under the Sponsored Links heading, google adwords ads are displayed. After opening a Google Adwords account the Google interface guides you through the process of setting up your first google ad which can be live within minutes.
It's important to remember every time your google ad is clicked you pay, it's called Pay Per Click (PPC), so it's important to ensure your ad is highly targeted to the visitors you are trying to attract and that the web page you send them to features relevant and effective advertising copy. Get everything right and you'll start making sales and your google ad is likely to move up the sponsored listings but get it wrong and you'll be paying for clicks and making no sales.
You can't expect to become a Google Adwords expert overnight so you're going to need time and a budget to experiment with your ad copy and "landing page" (the web page your google ad sends visitors to). Ideally you're aiming for a high Click Through Ratio (CTR) with an affordable Cost Per Click (CPC) that leaves you in profit after making sales and deducting the cost of your google ads campaign. If you get these right there's a good chance your ad will move up the sponsored listings because the visitors google sends to your site are finding what they want and in turn google is also making a good return on your ad space. If you google ad doesn't prove popular google will display other sponsored ads above yours.
Remember Google are in business to make money for their shareholders but they recognise people will only click on google ads if they offer revelant results.
You can target your ads by country so don't run your campaign worldwide if you're looking for UK traffic and you can choose to display your ad only on google or google and google partners websites and you can set different CPC's for each. We would recommend restricting your advert to google until you have created and fine-tuned your ads at which time you can expand your coverage carefully and monitor the results.
Google Adwords is highly configurable enabling you to set budgets, times of day to display your ad, different landing pages and different CPC for every keyword. You can also turn your ads on/off at any time so it's up to you to make the most of this excellent advertising opportunity but it all starts with opening an account so why not give it a try today?
