Make Money from your website with Google Adsense

Google Adsense has to be the easiest paid advertising you can add to your website and make money but it will only work if you have significant traffic to your site you are prepared to send to other websites via Google sponsored ads.

All you have to do is open a Google Adsense account, which is free, enter your site details then cut and paste an HTML code snippet into your website where you want the ad to appear. You can choose between text or image ads, you can choose the size and adjust the colours to match your website theme.

Once the code is in place and the webpages have been uploaded to your server Google visits your site and intelligently (most of the time) selects appropriate sponsored ads on your web page. If your site visitors click on the google adsense ads you get paid. The amount you get paid varies depending on how much the advertiser paid to display the ad minus Google's cut - you never get to see how Google shares the ad revenue, your choice is simple - take it or leave it.

Gone are the days when webmasters got rich by building websites specifically designed to make money from Google Adsense advertisers so don't expect to get rich overnight. Careful placement and research can improve your click-through-ratio (CTR) and it's well worth experimenting with different ad types, sizes and placements to see what works best. You can also choose to block specific ads which is worth doing to prevent your direct competitors ads appearing on your site.

It's also becoming possible to offer CPM advertising (Cost Per Thousand, the "M" is taken from the Roman numeral for "one thousand.") in which case you are paid a fixed fee whether or not the ad is clicked - which is nice.
